How Does the MAF Sensor work?

The majority of automobiles feature a hot wire MAF sensor. It has one heated wire and one wire that is at room temperature. The MAF sensor's microcontroller measures the engine's air by keeping the hot wire temperature 200°F above the ambient incoming air.

The energy necessary to keep the sensor at the same temperature is computed and transmitted to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM then directs the injectors to supply the precise fuel proportional to the airflow, resulting in an air-fuel combination appropriate for your engine.

Symptoms of a Faulty MAF Sensor

A faulty mass airflow sensor cannot accurately detect airflow. So the mass airflow sensor can easily be damaged or contaminated. If the air filter is outdated or poorly installed, unclean air might enter the engine. If the air filter is contaminated with oil, it can contaminate the machine. These issues cause incorrect readings that might cause more problems to your car's condition.

1. Stalling, Jerking, or Hesitation During Acceleration

3. The Air-to-Fuel Ratio is Too Lean

Running lean means your car has too little fuel and too much air in each combustion chamber, which is the opposite of running rich. Again, the MAF sensor sends inaccurate information to the PCM. However, this time, instead of overestimating the amount of airflow, it underestimates it.
